Coach Kat’s Story
Kat is a certified personal trainer and Registered Associate Nutritionist (ANutr) with the Association for Nutrition in the UK, with a passion for resistance training for longevity and plant-based nutrition.
She became interested in fitness at a young age, dabbling in various sports and quickly getting hooked on cross-country, middle distance and endurance running aged 11. Kat realised the power of being present during exercise and its benefits for mental well-being early on, and this is an aspect of fitness she aims to share with all of her clients.
After a few chaotic years, an art diploma, a marine biology undergraduate degree, a lot of bartending, and a challenging relationship with food, Kat became interested in the healing and preventative powers of plants, while also learning about the negative impacts of global warming, unsustainable fishing practices, and animal agriculture during her studies. This led to a transition from vegetarianism to veganism and a deep dive into the ethics of speciesism and animal exploitation. She later completed a master’s degree in Human Nutrition and stepped foot in the weights section of the gym with a PT for the first time. She believes that getting stronger, building muscle and learning about nutrition from a scientific perspective, changed her mindset around food from a disordered one to a balanced and healthy one.
Since beginning her resistance training journey 8 years ago, Kat has become an advocate for resistance training and muscle health to prevent frailty, increase resilience and improve healthspan. As a coach, she has worked with a diverse clientele, including gut microbiome enthusiasts, GP-referred weight management patients, and women learning to lift on the gym floor. Throughout this time, she has made it her mission to promote the benefits of strength training, progressive overload and regular movement for everyone, tailored to what works best for each client.
She is currently studying a second part-time master’s in Global Health and loves science, so her coaching philosophy centres on scientific evidence, whilst prioritising enjoyment, sustainability, and a person-centred approach.
